The Goshin Ryu Ju-Jitsu Society and all its clubs in both Spain and in Scotland owes its very existence
to the guidance and support of the late Shihan Billy Doak 8th Dan Ju-Jitsu, 4th Dan Judo,
I first met Shihan
Doak at a seminar in Birmingham (England) organised by the United
Kingdom Ju-Jitsu Federation. At that time I was 2nd Kyu and part
of a small independent Scottish Ju-Jitsu Club that was looking
for direction after breaking away from the World Ju-Jitsu Federation.
I was immediately awe struck by the sheer brilliance of the way
that he executed each technique and we decided that this was the
direction that we should take. Eventually Shihan Doak accepted
us as students, I had no concept of the journey that would follow.
At times I would look on from the side of the mat in total amazement
at the spectacular demonstrations that were taking place before
me wondering if I would ever be capable of performing such seemingly impossible
displays of skill and control.
I will forever be in dept for the patience
and support that he provided me with over the years and only
hope that I can continue to justify his efforts by my teaching and actions.
Billy passed away on the 27th November 2009 after a prolonged period of ilness, he will be missed more than he would ever have believed.
The loss of both his guidance and freindship is something that will be impossible to replace. Our thoughts and sympathies are with Shareen and his family.
